Ladies only: In flow with Aunt flo
Let’s get one thing straight—your menstrual cycle isn’t just about your period. It’s a powerful rhythm that can guide how you plan your month, show up in your relationships, work, and creativity, and tune in to your body’s deeper needs.
Understanding the phases of your cycle can completely shift how you support your energy, productivity, and wellness. So, let’s break it down and explore how you can live in sync with your cycle—and thrive through it.
The four phases of the menstrual cycle
Menstrual phase (Days 1–5):
This is when you’re bleeding. Your hormones are at their lowest, and it’s your body’s natural time to rest, release, and reset.
Follicular phase (Days 6–14):
Estrogen starts to rise, and so does your energy. You might feel more social, motivated, and ready to start new projects.
Ovulation (Around Day 14):
This is your peak fertility window. Estrogen and testosterone are high, making you feel confident, magnetic, and outgoing.
Luteal Phase (Days 15–28):
Progesterone rises. You may feel more inward, sensitive, or driven to tie up loose ends. This is a great time for deep focus or heavier physical effort if you channel it well.
Cycle-sync your life:
Learning to live with your cycle instead of pushing through it is a total game-changer. Here are some real-life ways to flow with Aunt Flo:
🩸 Menstrual Phase:
I give myself permission to slow down. It’s when I’m at my most reflective and intuitive, so I schedule time to plan and write—whether that’s blog posts, emails, or content for the month ahead. If I can avoid meetings or busy social events, I do.
🌱 Follicular Phase:
Energy returns! This is the best time for brainstorming, learning something new, and saying yes to things that excite me. It’s also a great window to ease back into workouts or movement that feels good.
💫 Ovulation:
This is when I’m most magnetic and expressive. I’ll line up important calls, collaborations, or meetings during this time. If I’ve got something to launch, this is when I’m all in.
🔥 Luteal Phase:
This is my powerhouse phase. I do my best heavy lifting in the 1–2 weeks before my period—whether that’s hitting new PB’s at the gym, working through to-do lists, or even deep cleaning the house or factory. I’m focused, grounded, and ready to finish strong.
Cycle self care:
Your cycle is a reflection of your overall wellbeing, and the right support can make a big difference. Here are a few ways I (and many other women) nourish ourselves through each phase:
Menstrual support
Magnesium: Helps ease cramps and support restful sleep.
Colloidal Gold: Great for clarity and mood balance during the emotional ebb.
Castor oil packs: Perfect for relieving tension in the lower abdomen.
Ritual: Herbal teas, journaling, or just lying with a heat pack—permission to rest.
Follicular & ovulation support
Colloidal Minerals: Replenish what’s been lost and support energy metabolism.
Zinc Picolinate: Helps regulate hormones and supports clear skin.
Essential Oils: Citrus or peppermint blends for energy and mental clarity.
Ritual: Move your body, try new things, schedule what lights you up.
Luteal support
Chromium: Great for supporting blood sugar levels and those PMS cravings.
Selenium: Supports liver detox and hormone metabolism.
Lavender Oil: Calms the nervous system and promotes emotional balance.
Ritual: Prep nourishing meals, get organised, take time for reflection.
The Bottom Line?
Your cycle is not a curse—it’s a compass. When you understand it, honour it, and support it with the right tools, it can become your greatest ally. Whether you’re in your creative peak, needing to recharge, or tying up loose ends, there’s power in every phase.
Let’s stop fighting our biology and start flowing with it—beautifully, naturally, and unapologetically.
